Michael Power St. Joseph High School Partners with Crawford Electrical for Co-op Education and OYAP (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program)

Trevor Crawford has been a strong supporter of co-op education for career exploration and workplace experience since he offered a placement to his first co-op student, Patrick Cristobal, in September 2006. Since that time, he has supported the co-op program by providing a placement to another four students who were interested in starting an electrical apprenticeship. He is currently working with our TCDSB Accelerated Electrical OYAP Program to provide a placement to one of our previous co-op students, Carmen Bruno who is now dedicated to pursuing his Electrician’s License through an apprenticeship, while still in high school.

Trevor has always displayed the qualities that we look for in our workplace supervisors. While placing the students’ safety above all else, he gives the students the training and supervision that they require to perform appropriate tasks and responsibilities to help at the workplace. Trevor and Lou treat our students with respect and allow the students to prove that they are an asset to the company. Our students have all enjoyed the time that they spent working and learning with Trevor and Lou, despite the long commute from Etobicoke to the worksites, often in the East end of Toronto. Our co-op students have realized that the world of work has many timelines and a positive attitude is needed towards all of their tasks. The Crawford experience has opened their eyes to a totally new way of thinking. It has been the best work experience they have ever had!
