This program combines instruction in high school and at Humber College and provides a Cooperative Placement in the landscaping industry with a certified member of Landscape Ontario.
A Landscaper:
- Loves working with all different types of plants
- Cultivates, harvests, and sells trees, shrubs, bulbs, and flowers
- May also grow food plants such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and berries
- Will have the opportunity to work in greenhouses and in both indoor and outdoor nurseries
- May work with a wholesale or retail outlet specializing in plants and therefore using their extensive knowledge to assist customers with their planting needs
- May also specialize in a particular area such as pest control, crop production, or greenhouse management
In this program, students will complete their Level One in Landscaping at Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. The education and training opportunities will be provided at the home school and at Humber College. Upon successful completion of the 8 week in-school “Level One” session at Humber College, students are then assigned to a work-site for their Cooperative Education Placement which lasts until the end of the semester. At the end of the semester students will have earned four (4) high school credits, “Level One” Apprenticeship in Landscaping, hundreds of hours of practical experience, and an opportunity to gain full or part-time employment as a Landscaper.
To qualify, YOU must:
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Be in good academic standing with a minimum of 26 credits including completion of all compulsory courses
- Have an interest in working as a Landscaper
- Be willing to travel to Humber College for the eight week “Level One” in-class training
Candidates will be interviewed by a selection committee which includes industry partners and teaching staff from the Toronto Catholic District School Board. A limited number of spaces are available for this program.
Program components include:
- 1 week at Home school
- 8 weeks at Humber College
- 11 weeks at a Cooperative Education placement in the Landscaping industry
Program Credits/Certification:
- Earn four (4) credits in Cooperative Education towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
- Successfully complete “Level One” apprenticeship training in Landscaping
