A Hairstylist is a highly motivated and creative individual who has the ability to deliver the very best in creative colouring, effective highlighting, colour placement as well as cutting techniques, chemical relaxing, permanent waving, long hair design, scalp analysis and the proper sanitation of tools per industry standards.

A Cosmetologist has a career with endless opportunities. Make-up artist, skin specialist, esthetician, cosmetic chemist, and hair colourist, all fall under some of the many responsibilities of a Cosmetologist.

To Qualify, You Must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age and in your graduating year with at least 26 credits
  • Have an interest in working within the Service Sector as a Hairstylist
  • Be in good academic standing, including completion of all compulsory courses required for an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Be willing to attend classes at Monsignor Johnson Catholic Secondary School and travel across the GTA as needed to participate in a Cooperative Education placement.

A limited number of spaces are available

Program Components Include:

  • 9 weeks at Monsignor Johnson Catholic Secondary School
  • 10 weeks at a Cooperative Education placement in the hairstyling industry

Program Credits/Certification:

  • Earn 4 credits in total towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Successfully complete the Grade 11 and Grade 12 TPE3E and TPE4E Hairstyling and Aesthetics course
  • Hours and skill competencies completed at co-op placement to be documented and counted towards the apprenticeship in Hairstyling 
  • An opportunity to write and challenge for free the Hairstyling "Basic Level" Exemption Test
